Corneal Opacity

What is corneal opacity?

The cornea is normally a transparent and smooth structure that plays a crucial role in vision. However, various diseases (both congenital and acquired) and trauma can lead to a loss of transparency in the cornea, either in a focal or diffuse pattern. This results in scars that can make the cornea appear opaque, causing visual disturbances.

How is it diagnosed?

Corneal opacity is diagnosed through a comprehensive eye examination conducted by an ophthalmologist.

Symptoms

When these scars affect the visual axis—the area in front of the pupil—they can cause blurred vision and visual impairment.
