What does it involve?
Iridotomy is a procedure performed by laser, usually a YAG laser, but it can also be performed with an argon laser.
When is it carried out?
It is performed as a treatment for glaucoma.
Prior examination
Comprehensive eye examination.
Before the surgery
It is a prophylactic treatment performed in eyes with a narrow angle (occludable angle) to prevent acute glaucoma episodes (sharp rises in intraocular pressure due to pupillary block).
Surgery
Surgery consists of making a small hole in the periphery of the iris to connect the posterior and anterior areas of the iris (posterior chamber to anterior chamber) and balance the pressure between them.
