Trabeculoplasty

Trabeculoplasty
Procedure takes about 15 minutes
Effective in 85% of cases
What does it involve?
Trabeculoplasty is a procedure performed with an argon laser. It involves directly applying the laser to the eye’s filtration area, the trabecular meshwork, to increase the outflow of aqueous humour, thereby lowering intraocular pressure.
When is it carried out?
Before being applied, certain criteria have to be met: open angle and sufficiently pigmented.
Prior examination
Comprehensive eye examination.
Before the surgery
No risks or special precautions need to be taken into account.
Surgery
It is often performed when intraocular pressure treatment with eye drops has not been effective, there is intolerance to the drugs or the patient cannot undergo surgery, although it can also be indicated as an initial glaucoma treatment.
Associated pathologies
- Glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
