Canthoplasty

What Is It?

Canthoplasty is a surgical procedure where the external angle of the eyelid is raised to the required height in order to recover the normal tone and shape of the eyelid. This technique is designed to improve the eye shape and firm the skin, achieving both aesthetic and functional benefits.

In Which Cases Is It Carried Out?

Canthoplasty is typically performed on patients with:

  • Droopy eyelids
  • Periocular flaccidity (loose or sagging skin around the eyes)

Previous Examinations

Before undergoing the procedure, the following examinations are conducted:

  • Full ophthalmological examination
  • Eyelid and periocular examination

Photos are taken to assess the patient’s condition both before and after treatment.

During the Surgical Operation

  • Canthoplasty is carried out in the operating theatre of the outpatient unit.
  • The procedure is known for its speed and simplicity, making it highly effective.

After the Surgical Operation

  • The surgeon will occlude (cover) the patient’s eye for 24 hours post-surgery.
  • The patient is required to take antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs to ensure proper healing.
  • Ice should be applied to the treated area for the first 48 hours to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • The final results of the procedure can be seen one month after treatment.

Key Benefits of Canthoplasty

  1. Improves the shape of the eye.
  2. Firms and tightens the skin around the eyes, addressing sagging or drooping eyelids.
  3. Invisible incisions, making the procedure aesthetically appealing and less noticeable.
