Eyelid reconstruction is a type of surgery that aims to recover the function and anatomy of the eyelids.
In Which Cases Is It Carried Out?
- Eyelid tumours
- Anophthalmic cavity
Previous Examinations
- A full ophthalmological examination and eyelid and periocular examination.
- Photos are taken to assess the patient’s condition before and after treatment.
During the Surgical Operation
This treatment takes place in the operating theatre of the outpatient unit. The procedure can be carried out using various techniques, depending on each patient’s case. The most common techniques are:
- Skin grafts
- Fat grafts
- Blepharoplasty
Depending on the surgical technique, the surgeon may extract tissue from other parts of the patient’s body to later graft it into the eyelids.
After the Operation
- The surgeon occludes the patient’s eye for 24 hours (this occlusion may be extended to one week in some cases).
- The patient must take antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Ice must be applied to the treated area during the first few weeks.
- Rest is important in the first few days, and the patient should avoid lifting heavy objects and exercising.
