Orbital Reconstruction

Recommended in 2 Cases: Tumours and Orbitopalpebral Traumas

  • 100% Outpatient Surgery
  • IMO – Europe’s No.1 Centre in the Treatment of Orbital Disorders

What Is It?

This surgical procedure consists of recovering the anatomy of the orbit.

In Which Cases Is It Carried Out?

  • Anophthalmic Cavity
  • Enophthalmos

Previous Examinations

  • A full ophthalmological examination and eyelid and periocular examination.
  • Photos are taken to assess the patient’s condition before and after treatment.
  • A Hertel test (also known as exophthalmometry) is conducted. This measures the position of both eyes.
  • An orbital CT scan is also carried out.

During the Surgical Operation

This treatment takes place in the operating theatre of the outpatient unit. Various techniques can be used depending on the patient's case. The most common ones are:

  • Skin graft
  • Fat graft
  • Insertion of “Medpor” or titanium plates

Depending on the surgical technique used, the surgeon may extract tissue from other parts of the patient’s body to graft it into the orbit.

After the Operation

  • The surgeon occludes the patient’s eye for 24 hours (this occlusion may be extended to one week in some cases).
  • The patient must take antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Ice must be applied to the treated area during the first few weeks.
  • It is important to have enough rest for the first few days and avoid lifting heavy objects and exercise.
